Additional Information Heart Rhythm Device Follow-up * Volume I * Volume II: Case Studies Mark W. Sweesy, James L. Holland, Kerry W. Smith, and Marleen Irwin Cardiac Device Consultants, Inc. Simpsonville, South Carolina 29681 USA This book is neither authoritative nor exhaustive in its treatment of arrhythmia technologies, but it does provide a wealth of clinically relevant material and case studies. We could have created cleaner, more visually attractive ECGs and telemetries using simulators, but most of the ECGs and telemetries are “real world” where recordings are not always clear and free of artifact. The first purpose is to provide a practical and educational guide to assist in conducting effective device follow-up. In Volume I, we have included materials and didactic chapters which have found to be particularly useful in our own follow-up clinics and training programs. In addition we have included an expanded overview and didactic section on ICD detection enhancements. The many and often confusing abbreviations and acronyms commonly encountered have also been added. The books are intended to serve two basic purposes: the second purpose is to provide a self-evaluation of practical comprehension of cardiac device function and analysis. We have included over 115 case studies with questions, answers, discussion and references to provide an overview of what is frequently encountered in the clinical arena of these disciplines in Volume II: Case Studies. We have also included a practice paced ECG section with detailed annotated interpretation in this, Volume I, of our book. The material is designed to be helpful in pinpointing strengths and weaknesses in the user’s grasp of the material and to provide a realistic overview of typical clinical experience. In summary, our desire is to publish a book that is unique in its practicality to the clinician in terms of self-assessment and follow-up and its applicability to the cardiac device follow-up.
