About:

The Clinical Cardiac Electrophysiology Handbook, Second Edition, is a concise presentation in outline format of the practical information needed to understand the subtleties of cardiac electrophysiology. The Handbook focuses on the “how-to” management of arrhythmias, along with an understanding of the “why.”

“. . . a quick source for information in the EP lab or on the wards offering the ability to quickly review the essential components before a case or to reinforce new notions and practices encountered during a case.”  — From the Preface

  • Fully illustrated with more than 250 figures and tables.

  • Equally valuable to the cardiology fellow on their electrophysiology rotation, or an EP fellow or technologist working in the EP lab.

New and updated sections in the Second Edition:

  •  Ablation energy and biophysics, including pulsed field ablation

  • AF ablation techniques adjunctive to pulmonary vein isolation

  • Alternatives to cardiac resynchronization therapy

  • His bundle pacing

  • Intracardiac echocardiography

  • Left atrial appendage occlusion

Preface

Cardiac Electrophysiology is a rapidly and constantly evolving field. When we created The Clinical Cardiac Electrophysiology Handbook, our goal was to provide a thorough yet concise reference for a range of clinicans and learners. Our goal was to create a succinct resource that was equally valuable to the cardiology fellow on their EP rotation, or an EP fellow or technologist working in the EP lab. The book would act as a clinical resource, and a guide for self-directed learning.

In the years since the publication of The Handbook’s first edition, the field of EP has continued to develop, with new techniques and technologies entering the clinical realm. The Clinical Cardiac Electrophysiology Handbook, Second Edition represents an enhancement of the first edition, with expanded sections on: intracardiac echocardiography, including an annotated atlas of common views; atrial fibrillation ablation, with a focus on techniques adjunctive to pulmonary vein isolation such as linear ablation, posterior wall isolation, scar homogenization, and SVC/LAA isolation; His bundle pacing; adjunctive techniques for CRT, including multisite pacing, multipoint pacing, and LV endocardial pacing; and left atrial appendage occlusion. Lastly, the text has undergone significant revision and expansion based on new knowledge and evidence published since the first edition of the Handbook.

We hope that you find this resource useful, and we thank you for your support.

DOODY'S REVIEW SERVICE BOOK REVIEW:

**Reviewer**
Mohammed  A Ahmed, DO (Ochsner Clinic Foundation)

**Description**
This concise book on clinical electrophysiology discusses the investigation of
arrhythmias in the electrophysiology lab as well as pharmacological and
catheter-based management strategies.

**Purpose**
The purpose is to review the approaches used for diagnosis and management of a
broad range of cardiac rhythm disorders.

**Audience**
This is a good reference and a guide for electrophysiology fellows and general
cardiology fellows with an interest in electrophysiology.

**Features**
This book is very well organized, concise, and appropriately detailed. It
presents complex concepts in an easy-to-understand manner. It includes a
discussion of the subtleties of arrhythmia investigation and catheter-based
interventions in the electrophysiology lab. It also discusses indications,
patient preparation and setup, mapping, and ablation, as well as anticipated
complications of electrophysiology procedures. In addition, there is a chapter
dedicated to implantable cardiac devices. Tables and high-quality illustrations
further orient readers and help them to easily recollect the salient points.

**Assessment**
This handbook is easy to read and very informative for electrophysiology and
cardiology fellows. It is concise yet appropriately comprehensive and easy to
read. While the audience for the book is narrow, that is by intention because
it focuses on a very specific aspect of cardiology.
