Description
Over 40 internationally renowned experts contribute information on medical, endovascular, and surgical therapies for vascular disease in this comprehensive book, which is endorsed by the Society for Vascular Medicine and Vascular Interventional Advances. This is an update of a book that was originally published in 2007.
Purpose
It covers the main topics of vascular disease and leaves out the rarities, making it possible to read it in a short amount of time. As a majority of its readers will take the American Board of Vascular Medicine (ABVM) certification examinations, the editors include key points, case studies, and clinical questions for studying.
Audience
This book is fantastic for clinicians from various disciplines who desire a comprehensive overview of vascular disease. Although it is aimed at those taking the ABVM exam, it is a great review for any clinicians, especially vascular surgeons, who take care of vascular patients.
Features
In six parts and 23 chapters, the book covers vascular biology, cerebrovascular, aortic, renal, mesenteric, peripheral arterial, venous, and lymphatic diseases, as well as special topics in leg ulcerations. This edition also adds chapters on perioperative management and occupational and environmental disorders. While the book concentrates on vascular disease processes, it briefly discusses operative techniques. The book includes an impressive amount of data from landmark clinical trials and guidelines from societies. Both "key facts" and "key points" summarize each section and chapter. Readers have online access to video clips that demonstrate ultrasound and angiographic findings. They also can test their knowledge with case studies and questions at the end of each chapter.
Assessment
This is a well-written review book for those studying for the ABVM exam and taking care of patients with vascular disease. The chapter on perioperative management is a great addition and is especially useful for clinicians who need to optimize patients' comorbidities prior to surgeries.
